If you want to direct a domain that you have to a different domain or subdomain, the best way to do that would be to use a CNAME record. By creating such a record, the domain being pointed loses all of its records (A, MX, and so forth) and instead, it takes the A record of the domain address it is forwarded to. In this way, if you are using a web design service by some provider that gives you a subdomain, you can use an actual domain name and not only will it be pointed to the website that you've created, but it will also appear in the browser address bar at all times. Alternative possible uses of a CNAME record are to redirect all the targeted traffic from various subdomains to their main domain address, or to use the webmail service of your webhosting company by using webmail.your-doman.com, for instance. The latter will work only by creating a CNAME record for a subdomain since this type of a record created for the main domain address renders it impossible to use email addresses.

CNAME Records in Shared Website Hosting

Setting up a CNAME record with our shared website hosting plans is quite easy. Our in-house built Hepsia Control Panel features a section dedicated to the DNS records of your domain names, so you can create a new CNAME record for any domain or subdomain hosted within your account in only a few basic steps. There is also a video tutorial in the same section in which you can see the process first-hand. This feature will give you a number of possibilities - if you set up a company site on our end, for example, the workers can use their emails with the company domain name, not with the address of our mail server. If you wish to create a site using a different provider which offers online web design services, you can easily forward a domain address hosted here and use it for the site. Last, but not least, if you have an online store and you have a billing system for http://your-domain.com and/or an SSL certificate, you could create a CNAME record for the www subdomain and redirect it to the main domain address, so all your customers are going to be forwarded to a secure URL.

CNAME Records in Semi-dedicated Servers

You will be able to set up, modify and delete CNAME records very easy with any of our semi-dedicated server plans. The accounts are managed using the custom Hepsia hosting CP, and in one of its sections you will see all records for every domain address or subdomain that you have added in your account. To set up a new record, you need to select the hostname which will be forwarded (domain/subdomain), input where it will be forwarded to, pick the record type, that will be CNAME in this case, and you are going to be ready. In case you have never used a web hosting service before, our Control Panel is incredibly easy to use, so you'll not have any problems. We also have a short video and a detailed help article concerning how to create a CNAME record, both of which can be found in the same section of Hepsia. With this function, you could easily use a domain address hosted on our cutting edge cloud hosting platform for a site created elsewhere, set up a custom webmail login address with any of your domain names, and a lot more.
